Workplane - WORKPACKAGE 3

University of Catania

Objectives

  • This work package aims to identify the data sources that each unit has to work with, define an explicit data collection protocol for the fieldwork, and finalize collection of secondary data based on identified database.

Description of work

Task 3.1 Identification of the data sources that are reliable to understand the factors that influence the formation of clusters in the specific contexts under investigation.

This task will be performed individually by each unit. We will analyze the specific factors that describe the context under investigation: biomedical devices, nanotech, biotech, high tech heavy industry and semiconductors.

Task 3. 2 Definition of the data collection protocol.

In order to consider all the specific factors for each industry under investigation and with the aim of collecting data consistent across units, the seven partners of the FRIDA project will gather at meeting 2 (M2) to discuss the FRIDA Data Collection Protocol. A data collection protocol is commonly defined as a predefined procedural method in the design and implementation of experiments. Similarly, as in natural science we will set down it to generate standards that create a crucial knowledge base for successful replication of results by others in the field.

Task 3.3 Elaboration of the questionnaire to be employed in the direct observation stage, definition of the research sample and of the structure of the interviews.

The aim of this work package is tightly linked to the previous one. The objective is to clarify sampling issues, key actors and informants, and finalize the tailoring of questionnaires.

Task 4.4 Data triangulation,

which refers to the triangulation among the data collected, respectively, by personal interviews, from the databases used and from others sources (press publication, archival data and so on).
